Kuwait Rebukes Iran's Strike on US Embassy

(MENAFN) Kuwait has issued a forceful diplomatic rebuke following an Iranian attack on the U.S. Embassy in the Gulf state, declaring Tuesday its "strongest rejection and condemnation" of the assault in an official statement from the Foreign Ministry.

Kuwait City characterized the strike as a fundamental breach of globally recognized legal frameworks, stating the attack constitutes "an act that constitutes a blatant violation of all international norms and laws, including the 1949 Geneva Conventions and the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which grant immunity to diplomatic premises and personnel even in situations of armed conflict."

The Kuwaiti government stopped well short of a purely rhetorical response, reaffirming the country's "full right" to pursue any and all measures deemed necessary "to safeguard its security, protect its territory, and ensure the safety of its citizens and residents" — language widely interpreted as a warning that further escalation against Kuwaiti soil will not go unanswered.

The attack, which took place Monday, involved drone strikes that left smoke billowing visibly from the diplomatic compound, according to media reports. The U.S. Embassy in Kuwait had already announced a full closure earlier Tuesday, citing deteriorating regional security conditions.

The assault on the mission is the latest flashpoint in a rapidly widening conflict that ignited Saturday when U.S. and Israeli forces launched a large-scale military campaign against Iran, killing several of the country's most senior figures, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Tehran has since embarked on a sustained retaliatory campaign, directing waves of drones and missiles at Israel and at Gulf nations hosting U.S. military installations — with Kuwait's capital now the latest city to bear the consequences.
